What parents are saying…
Christine- Sprouts Class
We loooove Palmetto and Pine! I know most people interested are homeschool families but I found we fit right in too! I have a two year old that stays home with me during the week. I don’t want her to go to daycare but I was wanting to socialize her and get her out of the house and experience an educational like setting that I could be there for and this is IT!
We go once a week right now with what my work schedule allows and she absolutely loves it. Not only does it make us get out of the house, but it gives her time to explore nature, get to know others and it gives me time to slow down and be in the moment with her. My toddler is slow to connect with strangers and Mariah had absolutely helped her break out of her shell. She loves her so much and talks about her and her “nature class” non stop.
We find ourselves outside more now at home and going on more walks observing and talking about the world around us. The impact this has had on our toddler already is something I am so grateful for. I could rave all day about Palmetto and Pine, it’s the best!
Sam- Troopers Class
I can't recommend Palmetto and Pine Arts Forest School ENOUGH homeschooling families looking for a truly unique, nature-based learning experience. My 9-year-old daughter has had one of the most engaging and enriching educational journeys under the guidance of Ms. Mariah. She has fostered a learning environment that connects my daughter with the world around her, blending outdoor exploration with hands-on education.
What sets this school apart is Mariah's ability to adapt to weather conditions, ensuring that the outdoor activities are always fun and educational, no matter the season. She goes above and beyond by incorporating exciting field trips, like visits to the local library and botanical garden, further expanding my daughter's learning experience.
The balance of structured learning and free exploration in nature has sparked a new level of curiosity and excitement in my child. Palmetto and Pine truly offers an immersive educational experience that goes beyond the traditional classroom and connects students with their environment in a meaningful way.
Thank you for this wonderful experience! I look forward to continue growing with you
How we approach arts & learning…
-
We embrace the philosophy that children thrive when deeply connected to nature. Extended time outdoors allows children to experience the rhythms of the natural world, fostering a sense of timelessness in our hurried lives. This connection builds bonds with the land, themselves, and all living beings. Close contact with nature enhances children’s motor, sensory, social, emotional, moral, and cognitive development, as well as their physical and mental well-being.
-
When children are captivated by something, their natural sense of wonder fuels a hunger for knowledge. Learning happens most effectively when curiosity is at its peak, and children are actively engaged in something meaningful to them. At Palmetto + Pine, play is learning, and learning is play.
-
Asking open-ended questions encourages children to think critically and creatively. This approach helps children trust their own observations and explore multiple solutions to a problem. Rich conversations and explorations promote divergent thinking and enhance problem-solving skills, both essential for the arts and beyond.
-
Our program nurtures creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, emotional resilience, perseverance, teamwork, peer communication, imagination, and a lifelong excitement for learning. By blending fine and performing arts with nature, we create an environment where children grow as confident, capable, and compassionate individuals.

“Creativity is as important now in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status.”
— Sir Ken Robinson
